RIAT: Two-factor authentication only possible with EU Login Mobile App in future

04 February 2025

In November 2024, the European Commission decided to phase out the EU Login SMS as an authentication option for all EU platforms - including RIAT. This method is considered technically outdated and no longer meets the EU's security and data protection requirements. The SMS option will be discontinued for existing users at the end of June 2025, while new users who have created their accounts since January 1, 2025 will only be offered the alternative two-factor authentication (2FA) via the EU Login mobile app.

The EU Login Mobile app is free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store (Android), the App Store (iOS) or the Windows Store (Windows Phone). The app offers various options for logging in, including using a PIN code or scanning a QR code. These methods can be used without the user having to enter their cell phone number.

Detailed instructions on installing and linking the app to your RIAT account are available via the following link: https://scribehow.com/shared/DE__Zwei-Faktor-Authentifizierung__Die_EU_Login_Mobile_App__gMhaI3T8QQyP_14jlIecmQ

Please make sure that you have changed the verification method by June 2025 at the latest to avoid problems with the EURP application in RIAT.

These changes have already been mentioned in the monthly RIAT newsletter sent to all RIAT users and the alternative verification method has been presented.
